Petroleum coke

Petroleum coke is a solid porous product obtained by coking petroleum raw materials. Its color is often varied from dark gray to black. It is used for the electrodes and corrosion-resistant equipment manufacturing or as reducing agent upon receipt of ferroalloys, etc.

The elemental composition of raw or unheated petroleum coke (%) is: 91-99.5 C, 0.035-4 N, 0.5-8 S, 1.3-3.8 (N + O), the rest of it are metals.

The main indicators of quality are the content of S, ash, moisture (usually not more than 3% by weight), the yield of volatile substances, particle size distribution, mechanical strength.

Petroleum coke is subdivided:

according to the S content, low-sulfur (up to 1%), sulfur (up to 2%), high-sulfur (more than 2%);

according to the ash content on low-ash (up to 0.5%), medium-ash (0.5-0.8%), high-ash (more than 0.8%);

according to the granular composition into a lump (fraction with a particle size of more than 25 mm), "nut" (6 25 mm), fines (less than 6 mm).

Type 3

Moisture - 8-12% Ash - 0.2-0.3% Sulfur - 4.5-7.5% VM - 8-11% C - 87.73-91.01% CV - 7800-8000 kcal/kg

Type 4
(Total Coke)

Moisture - 3.0% VM - 11.0% Ash - 0.6% Sulfur - 0.6% Actual density at 1300 °-2.08 g / cm3, not less
